Uzbekistan: Shakhrisabz

Formerly known as Kesh and tentatively identified with the ancient Nautaca, Shahrisabz is one of Central Asia’s most ancient cities. It was founded more than 2700 years ago. its name was officially changed to Shahrisabz in the modern era.

Uzbekistan: Historic Center of Bhukara

Located on the Silk Road, the city has long been a center of trade, scholarship, culture, and religion. During the golden age of the Samanids, Bukhara became the intellectual center of the Islamic world. The historic center of Bukhara, which contains numerous mosques and madrassas, has been listed by UNESCO as one of the World Heritage Sites.

Uzbekistan: Bibi-Khanym Mosque, Samarkhand

Bibi-Khanym Mosque is a famous historical Friday mosque in Samarkand,Uzbekistan, whose name comes from the wife of 14th-century ruler, Amir Timur. There is a large marble Qur'an stand in the centre of the courtyard.

Uzbekistan: Itchan Kala

Itchan Kala is the inner town (protected by brick walls some 10 m high) of the old Khiva oasis, which was the last resting-place of caravans before crossing the desert to Iran. Although few very old monuments still remain, it is a coherent and well-preserved example of the Muslim architecture of Central Asia. There are several outstanding structures such as the Djuma Mosque, the mausoleums and the madrasas and the two magnificent palaces built at the beginning of the 19th century by Alla-Kulli-Khan.
